Is programming completely saturated now? My brother is 22 and thinking about going to school for it. I'm thinking the market has fucked all the new students because they pushed such a shortage of programmers, all the kids went to school to learn, now that market has such an abundance of candidates it wants you to have 7 years experience and be able to have 3 stacks under your belt but in term pays 40k to start if you can even find a job.

I donno, I work in a engineer-heavy field as a programmer, make a lot of money and they would definately want to hire more good people. Especially if they are women.

No you absolute mong...as things get more and more automated we will need more and more programmers, until every single person in the world is a programmer that programs programs.

It's already becoming like law, where the top 5% make 90% of the money. The rest fight for scraps and are lucky to get a job. Your brother will never be able to compete with autists like me

you're thinking about programming.
average wage of a CS major after graduating from my uni is six figures starting.
plus it's a good double major.
t. applied math and computation CS double major
I guess retard end user scum wouldn't understand.

maybe tell your brother to going into a long dead field instead?

Dunno I'm just a Software Engineering undergrad (which is not CS), I learned to program and I worked some months as a programmer long before going to uni.
I'm not from the US but I can see that many CS courses there are meme tier, still you can find something if you keep trying for a very long time after you got the degree

No, it's still pretty easy to get a good job as a software engineer.

>> No.12256307

define 'saturated' here. it seems like there isnt a single degree that ISNT saturated so really the question we should be asking is which degrees are the least shitty. as far as CS goes, its an important on demand skill and you actually have opportunities for projects and more. considering that millions of people graduate as economics or business majors it seems like cs is still a good option

coding is mostly grunt work anyways, if I were at his age and I had to start all over I would have opted for a more theoretical path, like AI research or smth

I don't know about the US, but here in Germany I'm basically guaranteed a job as a programmer once I get my CS bachelor's degree.
Only thing remaining is the thesis.

No.
Companies just claim so to employees to keep salaries down.
Companies also claim the very opposite to everyone else to make sure there are many candidates available.

Here in Western Europe it's not saturated at all.

Maybe more than 7 years ago or so, but there is still more supply than demand
