I do care about climate change, but politicians are all retarded, and the few that actually care about the environment, namely aoc, while their hearts are in the right place, are all severely misled, and would ultimately be detrimental to the environment. The reason corporations allow stuff like the green new deal is because it would actually benefit them. It would only increase oil use, and they would get tons of government funding to build "clean burning" oil facilities to convert its energy into electricity. Anything actually effective would immediately be shut down and swept under the rug.
The GND would have us ban all motor cars, but still allow cargo ships, 15 of which at the panamax limit pollute as much as all cars in the world. It would also have us tear down every building in America and rebuild them to be environmentally friendly. It's all foolish pipe dreams.
If we want to actually have a positive impact on the environment, we would switch to nuclear power, which is safe and easy to keep clean and green. If we wanted to improve the environment, we wouldn't expand globalism, we would return to pre-WWI era american isolationism, and we would stop importing products and people from foreign countries. We could build factories that are up to US code and allow the foreign product producers to manage them, but keep them operated by Americans. Americans should be buying products made by Americans in America.
America is a city on a hill, and it should draw it's water from a wellspring at its peak. We should no longer trek miles to a foreign swamp to retrieve muck water.

One newer study contests all the others new studies.
Fertility rates going down helps - as you can see in the graphs I posted it slows the increase. But it doesn't stop the population from increasing, since 2 people having six children makes 8, while the six children then having one each makes 12.
For the population to go down in 30 years a very sharp decrease is needed and that's not what's happening.

And UN projection up to now have underestimated birth rates, not overestimated them, on account of africa not following the curve set by asia.

Additionally, the public has the misconception that they can have this large lasting impact by doing simple things like recycling and using reusable straws. I am not the originally poster. However, I believe the point he is trying to make is that, when actually implemented, recycling is really inefficient/detrimental as an waste management system. The big issue is that "re-purposing" part of recycling needs to be down where manufacturing occurs to make it economically viable (i.e. China, India, Philippines, etc). This requires transporting the waste material via transport carriers, which consumes a substantial amount of oil and ironically creating a lot of CO2 and pollution. Then when the waste actually arrives at the foreign manufacturing plant, a lot of it is unusable (see https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/garbage-costs-chronic-philippines-1.5156115).).

To truly solve the issue would involve some very uncomfortable confrontations with truth.
1) Europe is a problem but not as big a problem as China +China in africa. These countries give 0 shit about the environment. 2) plastic is not recyclable, 90% of it anyway, but is the basis of most of our products

3) there is no currently available green energy that could compensate with fossil fuel when considering a majority 52% of fossil fuel is used in industrial activities (transport by contrast is only 30%) it includes energy usage but huge amounts of this energy is just industrial processes, not peoples televisions.

4) we would need a lower standard of living as a result of 3.
