I was always the class clown in high school and I'm pretty sure i'm a brainlet

Same about the first part but I’ve always been the genius. Also I am a complete loser.

There have been a few situtations in my life that made me suspect I'm actually a genius with undiagnosed adhd or something like that. I remember a time in 6th grade I got a perfect score on a test about writing the coordinates of a list of countries using a map, it was very easy but for some reason I was the only one to get it perfect. The teacher looked at me perplexed since I never studied or turned in any homework and was a complete disgrace of a student

Depends on the humor. Witty people are often intelligent people.

class clowns aren't typically genuinely funny/witty. They are usually attention-starved and go for easy jokes and physical humor to get their fix.

no, being funny is inversely correlated with being happy though

I was not what I'd call the class clown, more like the funny boss of the space I was in because teachers and students alike were my targets in general.

Mostly because sitting in a coffin for 30m - 60m at a time was so boring.

However, yes, funny = intelligent because being able to confuse other people's signals or patterns of inference to get them on your side regardless of how deep or tall an emotion you put them in is essentially what helps identify a natural psychological orchestrator.

However the problem with 'class clowning' is that the independent part of the personality develops after school years because obviously the focus is to achieve dopamine from OTHER people enjoying it, so it sort of trains yourself to practice delayed gratification for humor because you wait for others to laugh before you do.

>>12113421
Which usually indicates an abusive home life. I never went for easy jokes, however physical humor I totally use because other people need another human to project their 'thank god I don't look or behave like that human!' judgement problems onto. It's a much needed psychological service we provide.

i tried to parse this out in hs and recently found the dominance/prestige idea employed in anthro to fit my observations. I'd say a vast majority of people who are 'funny' are usually just dominant in some way and the content of their speech isn't particularly surprising or intriguing. Then there's the few rare people who if you block out any of the status signalling genuinely create interesting pieces of speech. These people too are dominant in their own rite but the factors of competence out-weight the others. For example these people tend to not be the tall attractive guys but the skinny jew or whatever.

What is status signalling? Wouldn't that be more a cultural or societal point of inference that some members find themselves in? I've never responded specifically to status myself nor been required to capitulate to status for my happiness or survival or sociability but am extremely interested in what those signals might be.

Mostly because if I can teach others how to block status signals relative to their usual lifestyle it would probably be beneficial for society as a whole. I'm also curious as to why interesting pieces of speech occur consistently when status signals are removed.

>>12113678
Not sure if bait but status signaling is when people do things for the purpose of showing their status(in a hierarchy) to those around them. The behavior is much more prevalent and noticable when the hierarchy is yet unformed. To block it out means to just ignore the intention of a joke/comment and think about the quality in terms of relevantness and novelty.

The dumbest and the smartest people are funny. The average midwit however has no sense of humor.

It requires a minimal amount of intelligence. You have to be capable of abstract thought. Beyond that, I doubt there is a strong correlation if any.

Humor is both disposition and skill. It all comes down to creating unexpected connections between ideas. You can be naturally predisposed to being funny, which roughly comes from being creative, to see 'funny' things, and being able to communicate your thoughts to express those funny things. You can also improve humor by practicing just like with any other skill.

Intelligence doesn't help at all with the natural predisposition towards being funny but, like with any skill, smarter people will improve faster. So being intelligent probably does make someone funnier, but only if they're trying to be funnier.

Being looked at while someone is laughing and someone laughing directly at you are 2 completely different things.

If laughed at directly then people are projecting, if indirectly then they are laughing at the subjective humor occuring. It is the difference between being the object or topic provider and the subject of said laughter.
