I take Prilosec for acid reflux. The pills come in "two week treatments" which the box advises you to "not take more than once every four months." However, my doctor has always advised me to just take it every day and has never even brought this up.

What gives? I've tried looking it up on pubmed but can't find anything that says these proton pump inhibitors are definitively bad or good when overused (daily). Some people say it gave them liver problems and others say their wife got dementia.
Should I be looking for a different type of treatment? It's shocking to me how there's conflicting info on such a common medicine.

I posted the other day about it, but have more information available and want a serious medfag to chime in.
Around 1-1.5 years ago, I started experiencing red rashes on head on my dick, but thought it was friction from fucking too much. I noticed a skin liaison about 6 months back on the top of my foreskin and thought it was just a skin growth from the aging process. Recently I inspected my dick and noticed a few more small liaisons growing on top of my foreskin and under my foreskin I noticed a wart. I have double checked online on various medical websites and I have spoken to my doctor (who only took the descriptions of symptoms and history, did not give any information as I will be referred to a specialist) and it seems that I have HPV warts.
Now here is the thing, I have only been with one sexual partner for the past few years and had not been with anyone else prior to that for some years. My gf has checked herself and she cannot see any warts or growths, and she claims she has not been with anyone while with me.
I have read online that people can get the HPV and display no symptoms, and that they can pass it on to someone else and they can have it without showing symptoms as well, but due to stress and lifestyle factors symptoms can show up much later, even years later.
I can only think of three conclusions.

My mother has fluid on the lungs, pleural effusion.

Last week she had extreme back pain and went to the hospital and found out she has 1-liter of fluid on the lungs was pushing on her muscle.
They're going to be draining in and doing a biopsy next week.

She has a history of autoimmune disease, had a problem with her eyes with Sjögren's syndrome and various other autoimmune related things like balance. They ran a bunch of tests before and said it wasn't Lupus. But I know autoimmune disorders can manifest in strange ways.

What are the chances it's cancer?
She had ct scans/xrays done and they didn't see any cancer in her chest area. Doesn't the cancer need to spread to that area first?
She had zero cancer related symptoms up to this point, just the lower back pain, she can breathe and talk normally.
How long does a pleural effusion take to develop?

I think it's impossible to give you a precise chance as to whether or not the pleural effusion is due to a cancer. I had a look and it seems primary Sjogren's syndrome can result in pleural effusion. However of course a malignant cause must be ruled out. Causes other than lung cancer of malignant pleural effusion include breast cancer or lymphoma; and it's known that Sjogren's syndrome can increase the risk of lymphoma especially. Just because it is malignant however doesn't mean that pleural effusion is a sign of metastasis. Breast cancer for example may spread to nearby lymph nodes, which impedes the lymphatic drainage of the pleura therefore causing pleural effusion. In such a scenario the breast and offending lymph nodes would have to be removed, however I'm not sure the prognosis would be terrible. 5% of people with SS end up developing a lymphoma however (usually a non-Hodgkin's lymphoma); the percentage of people with SS and pleural effusion having a lymphoma is not known, I'm pretty sure.

Ultimately the biopsy and analysis of the fluid should tell you a lot more.

off the cuff I'd say your input is valuable on the practical/clinical side as we're quite decoupled from that.

But a good chunk of the MDs we work with I collaborations or research projects are MD PhDs, but as you can imagine it's also a pretty small field. There's names that everyone knows and the people they know.
