She was a valuable part of the effort i'm sure. The thing that felt weird is, they've been talking about this project for years-the massive amounts of data that had to be gathered together, the literal planes that had to fly hard drives from polar stations, the massive team of programmers that worked on interpreting and cleaning up the data for many months-and during that time,she wasn't in any way singled out. Then, as the results came out, she was picked as the "face" of the project, mostly by the popular media. That caused a predictable backlash which, sadly, was tainted with political shit and autism. Saying "Seems weird they're suddenly pushing one member of this huge team so hard like they're the only reason the black hole can be seen kinda feels like it's undervaluing the other people" is very different than saying "women are useless this cunt didn't do anything but polish her nails while men did everything", but of cooooourse the media then focused on the incel seething and ignored people gently suggesting that the whole team deserved credit and that pushing this one member was misguided and,in some ways, provocative.

She didn't do anything wrong and by all accounts of those on the project, was hard-working and essential to its success. Don't be fags and discount someone's hard work due to media bullshit and autism.
