Which school of thought do you think your field falls nearer to?
I'd say that mathematicians, computer scientists, and physicists are nearer to rationalists.
Whereas, chemists, engineers, and biologists are nearer to empiricism.
Of course, few people are either of the three archetypes.

I'd say unconsciously, because I'll just get random moments of instinctive inspiration, which I will then be able to retroactively realize was due to X piece of information.

Well, just looking at them I'd say that rationalists are the most chad. I think that I'm more of a rationalist (that is, I enjoy calculations and rational constructions more than experiments), but I realize the importance of testing the results and the predictions of the theory.

Radical empiricists (in hardcore Kantian way) are the strongest thinkers in my opinion. Their ontology and epistemology considering, say, mathematics and physics, is really strong.
