It doesn't take much time to relearn. I regularly forget stuff but study it again as I use different parts of mathematical analysis (think different famous theorems, etc). It ends up leveling out. Being intelligent and well experienced comes down to being able to reason your way through your work, so it doesn't matter too much if you have to relearn stuff. I had to relearn much of basic atomic physics when I took solid state

Pre STEM I didn't really give a shit but now I try to at least have a general idea of a concept before moving on

Yes, ofcourse that is why they invented paper.
You cant remember every little detail.
For example if I am analyzing a mosfet circuit I dont remember the exact formula for drain current. But I can just flip open my book go to my sticky note and read up for a little bit and bam the stuff just comes back to me.
