I have an equation that i can't solve. Here's the part i have a problem with: 0,5x(4x-8)

I know that i'll have to first multiply 0,5x with 4x,
and then 0,5x with 8.
The problem is that i don't know what 0,5x times 4x is, as i don't know how to multiply x with x.

Pic unrelated

There's a simple convention for this:
x times x = y
x times x times x = z

There are symbols for larges powers of x, but they are esoteric and rare. Algebra doesn't typically deal with anything larger than a cube.

So your answer is:

2y - 4x

Holy shit a sensible answer from 4chan.

First of all, that's not an equation. I'll assume you mean 0.5x(4x-8) = 0. Here's wat do.

2x^2 - 4x = 0

x(x-4) = 0

x= 0 or x = 4.

OP here

I figured it out.

0,5x times 4x is 2x^2

Sorry for being a bother.

I don't quite get what you are saying but according to my math-book where i have a list of all the answers, it's not right what you are saying. At least not in this case.

But it is: we use commas to denote breaks in large integers and the decimal point is the separator between integer and non-integer.

Swefag here.

While the Americans have retarded units, I MUCH MUCH MUCH prefer the decimal period as opposed to the decimal comma. It DOESN'T MAKE SENSE to use a comma.

>> No.1646737

When I read the comma I thought the problem was

5x(4x-8)
0(4x-8)
and to find both solutions.
