In reality, nearly everyone stumble into the patent profession by chance. I got my PhD, did a few postdoc contracts, but saw that a professorship was unlikely. I have met some scary intelligent people; I was not like that. I would not say I was suffering from excessive success. I still got the job. So don't be scared from applying.

You must have a CV, research statement, GRE score, certificate of English proficiency (TOEFL or IELTS) and 3 letters of recommendation from professors. As a masters degree holder it is expected you have publications: they'd rather hire a bachelor with "potential" if you have none. They also want you to have teaching experience. You need to pay a processing fee of about 100 dollars per application and also for the exams. Deadlines are very early (in December) so you need to start preparing around August/September of the year you will graduate. Visa issues are handled after you are accepted I think.

Go in the US, do a PhD, and in the meantime keep applying for H1B. Even after your PhD, you should have 3 more years as OPT STEM, so overall you could have 7-10 years in total to get a dual-intent visa one way or another.

Applying from outside the US is nearly impossible with the amount of indians hoarding visas and gaming the systems, last year I think above 70% of H1Bs were awarded to indians nationals.

Personally I'm following this track, and it's looking good so far. Living in the US is better than Europe and it's not even comparable. I do research internships for 4-6 months and they pay twice what I would get working one year back home. Not quite. Time for some blogging:
The patent profession is rather conservative in mamy ways including not shilling much. We were like the business law firms but they modernized and started promoting their services and also their companies as a career. Often they ended up with a major disconnect between their image and reality on the ground. Patent law firms are still too conservative for any shilling, while PRV, the Swedish patent office, is now part of Great Place to Work. And yet we do need fresh blood to make up for retirements and at times expansion. And recruiting people is hard, and perhaps half come from the national patent offices. I enjoy this work, so I put in a word for this career choice here.

I think an important issue with job seekers, especially STEM graduates, is location. You must learn to move to where the jobs are. In Greece for example, since the economy started to deteriorate, civil engineering graduates all go to places like the United Arab Emirates, doctors and dentists go to the UK or Germany, mech,, chem., and el. engineers move all over (US, UK, Germany, Singapore, Japan etc), math/science or bio-science/pharmaceutical majors continue on the academic route here (higher education is socialized in Greece - i.e. no fees exist, uni costs are paid for via taxation) and then do paid post-docs abroad or join research based corporations (quite a few go to Holland or Sweden or Denmark). The reason they do that is because they have the IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS, but they are in the WRONG PLACE. Once you've taken the hard route and done a STEM degree, you must then face the emotional (for some) hurdle of relocation. But, if you're in your twenties, to travel and relocate is a great idea, and if you stay on that route for 10 years, you can eventually return closer to home with the advantage of a lot of great experience on your CV.
So, STEM grads, it's not what you've studied that's the problem, it's where you are.

We have a massive influx of CS grads in the recent years in Europe and half of them do not give a fuck about anything they've learned, most were motivated by the prospects of extremely high paying job, which only exist in some parts of the US. So they find themselves dumbfounded when they end up earning 50k at best to do a job that drives them crazy, either because of the pressure of the job (agile development, scrum methods and internally competing with colleagues who are actually gifted) or the boredom that comes from a pure lack of interest in the field.
I've seen many reconvert recently, either going back to uni for another degree, or finding adjacent but non-technical jobs like technical writers or tech journalism.

Some degrees really only make sense to have depending on the place you live in, a mechanial engineer in Portugal and a mechanical engineer in Germany will not have the same job prospects and upward mobility.

Just started working on a BSc in Biological Sciences via a (largely) online university, since the oilfield town I'm working out of doesn't have any post-secondary schools. There are a few legitimate online universities with fully recognized programs. As a rule of thumb if the university is government funded AND has a physical campus, it's legitimate. The amount of labs they get you to do in person (depending on the subject) marks a good program, too.

Don't expect to land your dream job after going to one of these schools, but it's a fine way to make your way up in the world. Take a look at 'Open University' out of England and Athabasca University out of Canada. Also, consider a transfer out of these to a physical uni if circumstances change.

I enjoy military stuff. I was in the Civil Air Patrol cadets as a kid and really enjoyed playing with all the high-tech toys the military uses (I got to visit a lot of different contractors and military bases and use their equipment, it was awesome). I have a big interest in flight and especially space flight (I live like 10 miles from the KSC, I can see the vehicle assembly building from my street) and so the space force seems like the perfect blend of the two. Don't have a whole lot of interest in being a pilot desu.

I’m about to finish my bachelors of nursing in Australia, I want to become a clinical geneticist. So I’m preparing for the GAMSAT which I’ll do mid year during my grad year. But should I do an honours in genetic or biomed science? There’s very little information online about becoming a clinical geneticist. I know I need to do my medical doctorate and then gain a bit of experience as a registrar but it’s internal medicine. But it also says I need experience with genetic science ? Does anyone know if I will need the grad diploma/honours?

Thank you for the reassurance anon. I’m currently still cruising through some of my cybersecurity classes and my counselor had me write a detailed letter why I want to change majors. I get cybersecurity and I enjoy it quite a bit, but the market is so fucked and with AI becoming the norm, it just doesn’t make any sense to get that meme degree. Even CS majors with experience are fucking it all up for entry levels due to lay offs and bubble bursting. I considered EE as well but unfortunately none of the credits I took will transfer. At least I can have the cybersec and CE count as electives. I actually took an entire critical infrastructure class and currently taking a PLC and SCADA class. I like circuits and have my own little in home lab that I set up not long ago, but it seems like analog design as a field is dead. If you want to work in comp architecture, you need a grad degree. There are always jobs for pcb design and power electronics, dont know how competitive those are though. You will need to learn programming no matter what, EE or not. Any engineering major will require some form of programming, and you will need to know it if you want to be competitive in your field. Imo, most people have trouble adjusting. They come to foreign countries, but instead of learning from their new surroundings, they keep their own habits, and surround themselves with their own people. I am (partially) guilty of this and I moved within western EU (I tend to NEET and am not very social though). It's hard to socialize, learn the language, laws, dress accordingly, when everything you've learned before doesn't apply anymore. It takes conscious effort (Small example, where I'm from it is custom to say hi when passing someone on the street. In my current country, the first time I did this, people gave me mean mugs. I thought something was wrong with me for a while, that people didn't want me there kek, until a native told me they don't do that here.).

Coming from two opposite clashing cultures takes even more dedication than people can imagine. But it should be done out of respect, once you've decided to permanently relocate somewhere, you better respect your surroundings as best you can.
