I appreciate various spices and herbs for flavor, I can handle a good amount of heat in terms of capsaicin. Though in my experience Thai food is most prone to being obnoxiously hot, to the point of burning the outside of my lips. What they consider 'medium' can vary widely between restaurants and can ruin a dish.

I love spicy food, but OP's pic kind of summarises my experiences in Thailand. It was really hard to find spicy food, except in places run by Indians. Thais ignore you when you ask for spicy and serve you the mild white man version.
