Writing helps commit to memory. Even if you're good enough to type notes with equations at lecture pace, it won't help you as much.

You're supposed to collate notes and self study into your own document of the course. Use TeX for that and hw.

LaTex is for homework so your professor can read what you've written
if you want to be "le cool unique tech guy" write your notes with an ipad, I mean you can read and write with one device so maybe it's worth it I wouldn't know
