If we created a simulated universe with simulated humans, would their consciousness arise from their “head” or in the silicon chips in the greater universe?

>> No.14678360

Neither. Their consciousness is an emergent pattern of the mathematical multiverse, meaning they will remain conscious even if you shut the simulation off, and even if you never run the simulation in the first place.

>> No.14678364

>>14678275
It's a highly dubious premise that they would experience consciousness at all.

>> No.14678499

If the simulated universe mimicked 1-1 our current universe then they definitely would experience consciousness, as we do

>> No.14678516

what is it about simulation theory that makes it the number one most popular popsci topic of discussion amongst the brainlet soience fangoys?
is it the comic bookish aspects of the spectacular, unrealistic and completely non disprovable conjectures which go along with the topic that make simulation theory so popular amongst the scientist posers and wannabes?

If we created a simulated hurricane, would the computers get wet?

Dubious and unprovable contention.

A simulation can not mimick 1 to 1 a larger system

There are ways....

how?

It's a thought experiment, play along. You can learn about possible things by thinking about possibly impossible things
.

>> No.14678890

>>14678888
Not when you're talking about the nature of reality, and the impossible thing in equation is the alternative reality you propose.

>> No.14678909

>>14678888
If there were some compression on the system it would work. but I think most systems in nature don't have a compression. think about it, it would imply that you can convert information into energy and matter which shouldn't be possible. Although it might be possible who knows?

>>14678688

You dont have to mimick 1-1 the entire universe, you can have a galaxy level computer simulate a solar system level system where humans develop and then the question presented by the OP stands

consciousness would begin at the observer so simulated human brain. However, if the simulated human were to become conscious of the fact that they're a simulated human then consciousness would have to shift to the chip which would mean consciousness has its roots in perspective It's a fun thought, but at the end of the day I don't think simulated entities can be conscious.

>> No.14680166

>>14679001
Why would it shift to the chip? Just because they suspect they could be in a sim doesn't mean they would know and understand the underlying physics that are generating their realm

>> No.14681450

>>14680166
Because to be conscious is to be aware of in the moment. If you aren't aware of the underlying you're not conscious. Do you think people who live in a world where they're a perpetual victim are conscious they're exhibited internalized behavior tailored to garner sympathy or they are living out the same pattern of woe is me on autopilot?
