>So the limiting factor is how quickly they can build raptors, right?
Nope, they're already building Raptors at an insane rate, one of the ones that just got fed to a concrete pad was #42, which means they're probably building something like #60 by now.
The bottleneck is actually the rate at which they can get permission to fly these things, and I'm not joking. If SpaceX were written a permit for indefinite range clearance they would be testing shit much more often, and at that point they'd be limited by Starship production rates more than Raptor production rates.
For example one of the big ticket testing milestones coming up is going to be the first Booster prototype, which is only gonna need two or three engines to do all the testing it needs to do before being able to be used to launch Starship prototypes. This means that as long as SpaceX can get enough inventory for one fully loaded Booster stage they're pretty much golden. Remember that the Booster will be even easier to recover and land than a Falcon 9 first stage, due to having a greater range of throttle control and some other improvements.

NGL when I first watched the ascent it looked super violent and pretty scary but on re-watching the only violent part was the fast gimbal of the engine to point it out of the way. Look at the ground cam pointed at the vehicle and you can see it hardly even wobbles.
What's interesting is how Starship didn't just burn full throttle and then coast to apoapsis, it pretty much burned at a lower and lower throttle until it reached apoapsis and was almost just hovering there. My guess is that they wanted to eliminate the complexity of having it assume its aerodynamically stable position while still ascending, then do a sort of lazy flip passing through apoapsis before coming back down.

Lots of good stuff in the final National Space Policy https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/National-Space-Policy.pdf
>The United States will develop and use space nuclear power and propulsion for scientific, national security, and commercial objectives
>Extend human economic activity into deep space by establishing a permanent human presence on the Moon, and, in cooperation with private industry and international partners, develop infrastructure and services that will enable science-driven exploration, space resource utilization, and human missions to Mars.
I see alot of non-partisan things in there that people across the industry have been asking for, so I don't expect that Biden will change much of it.

Yeah but solid blocks of plutonium oxide inside of an RTG is not the same mechanically as a nuclear thermal rocket's fuel elements, which by design need to be very thin in order to avoid the temperature in the centerline of the fuel becoming too high at high power levels. The thickness of the fuel is fundamentally limited by the specific power of the fuel and the thermal conductivity. If the fuel is operating at a certain power level and is above a certain area density, even perfect cooling fluid flow around the fuel won't be enough to prevent overheating inside the fuel. Since NTR cores need to operate at huge specific power, that means they need very thin fuel elements, with voids in between for propellant/coolant flow, and of course this entire thing needs to be open on one end to allow the propellant to escape out a nozzle.
I'm not saying it's impossible to fix those issues, but it's definitely not the same as an RTG fuel element slug.

I mean, SpaceX has been getting plenty of experience doing that already, albeit in 1g on Earth. Really though, if the tanks are in space and under ullage acceleration, what's the difference? Just pressurize one tank and vent the other and blow the liquids across lol. Simple as.
The reason NASA et al are afraid of propellant transfer on orbit is because they never considered just using ullage thrust and avoiding the zero G problems.

I have a boner for the idea of sending tunnel boring equipment, and building hundreds of thousands of miles of underground passage ways 50 or so feet underground.

I would have it so that if you work in the Navy or Air force for 10 years you get a ticket to Mars. Once you've served your time in those branches you would be transferred to the space force.

Once you arrive to mars you'll be given 1000 sq foot apartment constructed in side of one of the hallway by the previous batch of of military transfers. For the next 4 years you'll be doing work to enable the next batch to be able to live on Mars, after that batch arrives you'll do other things.

Videos, um, there are women there. Some of you may have read that they were passing letters out, communications out to their men.

This is at Abu Ghraib ... The women were passing messages out saying 'Please come and kill me, because of what's happened' and basically what happened is that those women who were arrested with young boys, children in cases that have been recorded.

The boys were sodomized with the cameras rolling. And the worst above all of that is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking that your government has. They are in total terror. It's going to come out."

I can also tell you written complaints were made to the highest officers and so we're dealing with a enormous massive amount of criminal wrongdoing that was covered up at the highest command out there and higher, and we have to get to it and we will. https://historynewsnetwork.org/article/28956

e than was previously known.

The documents detail 320 alleged incidents that were substantiated by Army investigators — not including the most notorious U.S. atrocity, the 1968 My Lai massacre.
The records describe recurrent attacks on ordinary Vietnamese — families in their homes, farmers in rice paddies, teenagers out fishing. Hundreds of soldiers, in interviews with investigators and letters to commanders, described a violent minority who murdered, raped and tortured with impunity.

Abuses were not confined to a few rogue units, a Times review of the files found. They were uncovered in every Army division that operated in Vietnam.

Retired Brig. Gen. John H. Johns, a Vietnam veteran who served on the task force, says he once supported keeping the records secret but now believes they deserve wide attention in light of alleged attacks on civilians and abuse of prisoners in Iraq.

"We can't change current practices unless we acknowledge the past," says Johns, 78.

Among the substantiated cases in the archive:

• Seven massacres from 1967 through 1971 in which at least 137 civilians died.

• Seventy-eight other attacks on noncombatants in which at least 57 were killed, 56 wounded and 15 sexually assaulted.

• One hundred forty-one instances in which U.S. soldiers tortured civilian detainees or prisoners of war with fists, sticks, bats, water or electric shock.

Investigators determined that evidence against 203 soldiers accused of harming Vietnamese civilians or prisoners was strong enough to warrant formal charges. These "founded" cases were referred to the soldiers' superiors for action.

Ultimately, 57 of them were court-martialed and just 23 convicted, the records show.

Fourteen received prison sentences ranging from six months to 20 years, but most won significant reductions on appeal. The stiffest sentence went to a military intelligence interrogator convicted of committing indecent acts on a 13-year-old girl in an interrogation hut in 1967.
He served seven months of a 20-year term, the records show.

Many substantiated cases were closed with a letter of reprimand, a fine or, in more than half the cases, no action at all.

There was little interest in prosecuting Vietnam war crimes, says Steven Chucala, who in the early 1970s was legal advisor to the commanding officer of the Army's Criminal Investigation Division. He says he disagreed with the attitude but understood it.

Be the company that produces the asteroid mineral surveying probes or mining equipment, or produce tunnel boring equipment that's light enough to send on rockets.

Mass produce that stuff and put it on the market like mining excavators.

I don't think it's that bad in the nose. It's been far too long since I took physics but the nose doesn't actually travel that far during the flip. The engine compartment is an entirely different story, and will experience more intense conditions. Have a shitty illustration. It's amazing that the engines worked at all after the flip. Can't be easy to compensate for all that in the system's plumbing.

is there any future for rockets like the Saturn 5 once SpaceX perfects inflight refueling?

Wait does jeff really not know

His first sentence is asking you to settle. The second sentence implies spacex is going to get back on the horse, yet the test was a huge success, it won't ever be a montage of crashes like the falcon 9, and spacex could stick a landing on the next test.

Should've called it a long time ago but blue origin is just a pin on his lapel, he may have no idea how obsolete he's about to be right now because he's not paying attention
