I wonder why he thinks hes so smart when it comes to physics. His accomplishments all come down to getting a phd in mathematical physics from what I know. Has he actually ever done any actual work in physics after grad school? And if not, why should people care what he thinks abotut physics? There are thousands of physics professors who have been working their whole lives doing research. And this Eric guy seems to have been mostly a businessman for most of his working life. But I guess he thinks that having a phd means that he is on par with top researchers like Witten.

Geometric Unity will win out as the real Unifying Theory of Physics. What makes Weinstein a genius (at least 4 s.d. above the μ in IQ) is that he realised that the geometries behind GR and QM have to play nice. So just as Einstein stood on the shoulders of Riemann and riemannian geometry, Weinstein is doing the same but with a geometry that looks to incorporate all physical phenomena. The story of science really is the story of the ingenuity of the jews. Weinstein is our Einstein and Wolfram is our Von Neumann. Nah, his analogies are fine, for persons whom aren't retarded. The problem is that he's speaking with persons who miss the initial point, and then they miss the analogized point, so then they think his analogy made no sense or didn't follow.

I think a simple to find and great example of this would be Weinstein saying that Kung Fu Panda is great story about teachers and students. And retard Lex Fridman asks something like, "So, why did you like Shifu (the red panda) so much?", Shifu being the teacher of the panda. And Weinstein replies, with slight disappointment in his voice in his discovery that Lex is a retard, "Oh, I meant the Oogway, the turtle."

A really smart person doesn't feel the need to prescribe understanding in an audience. They aren't politicians. If you want to understand the speech before it's given, go to a rally or something. Was this analogy understandable?

I'm not saying he's not a hack, but your prescription for him to become less of a hack would actually cause more damage in the long run. "You have to join them to beat them" or "You get on the inside and then you change it from the inside" is fantastically wishful thinking, as if "them" aren't going to change and control you.

Why are you obsessing over his ideas regarding physics? Penrose, Wolfram, they all think they are on to something few others are on to. Who cares?

Weinstein has been critical of economics. If I apply your reasoning, not toward his lack of publishing of papers on physics, but toward his lack of publishing economics papers, then I would ask you: what is the point of publishing more evidence (theoretical or otherwise) that current economic models need changing? Do you think if he made a presentation on gauge theory applied to economics and presented to a congress subcommittee that, what, shit would change? Do you think congresspersons would be like, "Oh shi--oh man! Shit, you're right, oh fuck my bad y'all, we'll get to legislating such that we avoid future problems relative to X, Y, Z."

"What's the point of doing meaningful research if your work is not applied meaningfully?" is actually a profound question regarding conscious agents which you just totally dismissed. But since I'm a determinist, you couldn't have done otherwise.

my phd supervisor had a lot of students, many gave up midway, or took a long time to finish a result. my supervisor never took their work and published with someone else, even things that were potentially groundbreaking at the time.
Weinstein was probably one of these guys that took too long to finish his shit, or seemed that he would never finish it and his supervisor thought it was a good idea that shouldn't be sent to the trash bin. so he simply did what a lot of researchers do: if this guy can't appreciate this idea, let us finish it while it is still a hot topic.

If your analogies require the other person to be either as smart or even smarter than you to work, you have fucked up. The whole point of an analogy is to communicate an idea to someone that does not understand something. If it takes you ten fucking hours to explain it (and then another fifty hours spare time for the listener to process it) or you consistently miss the mark, your analogy is fucking trash. Analogies are intended as a way to communicate an idea to an idiot, but he manages to fail to communicate it to someone that actually seems to have a fairly similar education background.

Definitely, he takes credit for things he hasn't even done yet and talks shit about others. He accused Maldacena of stealing work from him and his wife, when in reality, Maldacena was using a economics analogy invented by someone Russian physicist 20 years prior in an expository, public talk. He wasn't even claiming it was his analogy or that the work was significant in any way. To put it in perspective, the work him and his wife did concerned applying (continuous) gauge theory to study purchasing power. The work Maldacena was quoting uses lattice gauge theory to study the foreign exchange market. The guy either has a massive victim complex or his ego is so large that he thinks any idea that could be construed as slightly similar to his is automatically his or both. Reminds me of the classic "ideas man" trope.

More egregious is the fact that in his GU talk he claims that the work of Seiberg-Witten was actually something that came out of GU and that the theory deserves more legitimacy because of it. Specifically he says that the "equations" of SW are part of GU and that he claims no stake in the theory, completely ignoring the fact that the "theory" is why it's so famous in the first place. If he was referring to the 4 manifold invariants that came out of SW, then even then he's wrong because Witten already connected invariants of 4 manifolds to qft before his work with Seiberg and combined the two to revolutionize the study of 4 manifolds.

That's not even mentioning the fact that he never published or worked out any of this. He just states that he once found some equations and someone told him it didn't work so he never worked on it. Didn't even mention how exactly it would revolutionize anything, just that he has some equations.

I can't even call the guy intelligent, muddled ways of stating basic ideas doesn't imply intelligence. I haven't heard him say anything that I consider insightful, it's either basic but true statements or obviously wrong ones.

>> No.12262789

>>12262637
Eh, kind of basic and lacking nuance. Yes, departments lack funding, scientists have been talking about this for decades. Every department becoming stagnant is completely wrong, there's ton of amazing work done in the extremely broad field of physics.

Corruption and political shenanigans seems to be stated with no evidence, nor any qualifiers concerning pervasiveness, severity, or quality. At a personal level I know that the only "political struggles" usually occur when it comes to dolling out big name prizes. Other than that, at worst it's usually some advisor sending a letter of recommendation to one of their friends in another university saying a candidate is good for their department. Even then, because hiring is done by committee, a single biased individual can only do so much, so these accusations don't really go anywhere.

Finally
>selects for people well suited to it rather than unorthodox thinking
seems more like projection imo. I've seen tons of people moan, "the establishment kicks out free thinkers" as they ramble about their cockamamie ideas that they don't even attempt to develop. People pretend that most great discoveries are made those "outside the system" or who operate against the orthodoxy, but this is patently false. Einstein built off of the work of Poincare, Riemann, Lorentz, Maxwell, and many others while training at one of the best physics departments in Europe. Feynman was trained at Princeton under Wheeler, his path integral interpretation was built off the work of Dirac. Newton trained under Barrow, the man who proved the fundamental theorem of calculus years before Newton entered college. None of these bozos were outside the system, nor were they somehow "unorthodox", they were trained and building off the previous generation. It's also worth mentioning that people don't ever sharply define "unorthodox", since that can range from wearing a Jersey to an award ceremony to writing your papers with literal shit.

It is immoral in many eyes. The state could seize their wealth at any time if they so chose to. Everyones wealth is dependent on the state maintaining order, therefore, nobody has a right to their wealth.
You think Bill Gates is entitled to all of his wealth to do as he pleases with it? Had it not been for all the people before him to prepare Microsoft to even be feasible, he would not be a rich man. The idea that people are entitled to their wealth because they earned it all on their own is a false premise.

t. there are many jealous proles who want to steal what they didn't earn.

>The state could seize their wealth at any time if they so chose to.
>Everyones wealth is dependent on the state maintaining order, therefore, nobody has a right to their wealth.

The state could also decide to purge the seditious rabble that are constantly inventing class struggles to maintain order. But in the US, they can't because there are limitations placed on the state from overreaching to maintain order.

>Had it not been for all the people before him to prepare Microsoft to even be feasible, he would not be a rich man.

Irrelevant. Progress always happens when built upon previous progress. This does not mean that whoever pushed the boundary further is not entitled to the fruits of their labor.

>The idea that people are entitled to their wealth because they earned it all on their own is a false premise.

Nothing you have argued shows this to be true.

the bigger problem is that scientist right now are either dependent on funding through academia or dependent on funding through corporate interests. Both are incredible cucked.
For one there's just these two options, which in turn are two biases, rather than more variety that would allow to filter through the biases.
There's also no "independent" science anymore. I mean when Kepler was hired by some Lord or whatever, he was doing astrology for him at the dinner table, while doing the real shit in his free time that the Lord didn't give a fuck about other than the prestige it gave him to have Kepler around.
Right now everything needs to have a pitch with predictable results.

I actually go to Evergreen and I am Turkish (i.e. not white. What you're saying is retarded, for several reasons:
(1) The DoA is only voluntary on paper, and they do that for legal reason. Just like on paper, cops aren't allowed to discriminate against blacks. It still happens though, and if you deny it, then you are gaslighting, which is intellectually dishonest and manipulative. If you showed up on campus for the DoA that would not be acceptable,
(2) Even if it is voluntary, that's irrelevant. If there was a day in which blacks were expected not to show up to campus, I'm sure low T white losers like you would be screaming for literally years and you would take the issue to the Supreme court if you had to.
(3) You are acting like a 'man child' - just like most of the radical left. Like I said, I go to Evergreen, I'm a non-white secular Muslim, and I am literally a liberal and a member of the green party. Intellectually dishonest far left activists like yourself like to pretend that literally everything wrong with the world is because of conservatives and you act like any criticism of the left is a priori factually wrong and racist. Guess what, leftists can be assholes too. Leftists can be hateful too. Leftists can have stupid ideas too. The problem with the world is not conservatives, but rather people in general who are (1) unwilling to engage in intellectually honest debate, (2) unwilling to criticize their own political ideology, and (3) willing to use fear, intimidation, misrepresentation, censorship and 'deplatforming'.

I myself have witnessed very disgusting behavior from low T whites like yourself, both at Evergreen and in general. For instance, some antifa loser in one of my history classes flipped out at this white boomer women because she asked why Persia was no longer a global power or major cultural center, and the low T white antifa faggot perceived this a offensive. In reality, their is nothing offensive about this question.

I have also seen low T white liberals like yourself
(1) flip out at a Turkish friend of mine who was also a secular Muslim because he criticized Islam and suggested that it was holding our country back. Once again, this was 'racist' and he had 'internalized islamaphobia' or some stupid shit.
(2) I have seen them talk endlessly about 'tolerance', 'diversity' and 'open mindedness'. At the same time you say that 1/3 of the country (working class republicans) are 'uneducated', racist, inbred, country hicks' who are 'too stupid to vote in their own interests. This makes no sense, and if you were a self-righteous partisan piece of shit, then you would realize that. It can't been in someone's 'nest interest' to vote for some rich corporate Democrat who views you and your entire family as a bunch of 'inbred, cousin-fucking, country hick meth fiends'. It can't be in you own 'best interest' to vote for someone who hates you a thinks of you as an uneducated, working class piece of shit.

You people - and by that I mean woke, anti-free speech, anti-white, corporate leftists - are fucking disgusting, and even as an educated, liberal, non-white, non-Christian, I actually have more in common with a working class white conservative that some low T elitist faggot with a degree in gender studies, like yourself.

I actually like the school, and my professors are great. I am graduating this Spring by the way. It's just a great environment for me because I always hated my general education classes and similar requirements. At Evergreen I have pretty much taken all math and philosophy classes, and I have never had to sit through something chemistry lab or a general education English class that I hate.

Make no mistake. I like the school and I generally do feel welcome here. However, I also see really cringey far left shit. Most students in your average class do not seem to by into this shit, but there is a very vocal SJW minority and they campaign all around the school.

Yeah I graduated a while ago but I also hated gen ed classes and felt 98% of college was an irrelevant waste of time and money for me. I probably actually would've liked that college as long as I didn't experience those people too often, and a high percentage of typical universities also now have similar ultra-woke student movements anyway. I wish there was a good way for the more moderate left to calmly reason with such people, but I guess Weinstein tried and that didn't go so well. They get so caught up in it and become filled with so much zeal and ideological passion. It's somewhat cultish
