This pattern is not a coincidence, it's a consequence of our base 10 system.
3, 6, 9... what's next? In base 10 we don't have a dedicated digit for number 12. When we add two single digit numbers together and get a result that's more than 9 we increment the digit to the left of our number, reset the rightmost digit back to 0, then add the remainding number.

Since we're dealing with multiples of 3 the remainder gets decremented by 1 when we have to increment the digit on the left. We get a pattern of rightmost digits which resets after 10th multiplication since we use base 10:
0, 3, 6, 9, 2, 5, 8, 1, 4, 7, 0, ...
While the rightmost digit gets decremented by 1 when switching to another set of 10, the leftmost digit (representing the number of tens) gets incremented. This is why your pattern "works".

Your initial pattern isn't actually infinite since it breaks after multiplying 3 by 10:
30 -> 3+0=3
33 -> 3+3=6
36 -> 3+6=9
39 -> 3+9=12 | at this point, the original pattern of 3, 6, 9 breaks.
