Do you find that you retain less and/or read at a slower pace with ebooks(ereader, phone, tablet, desktop) than with physical books? If so, do you think that this is compensated for by how convenient ebooks are otherwise as they are free and instantly obtainable, or that it is unacceptable and a waste of time due to the reduced retention and/or slower pace?
I find that it is easier to read a physical book, but I am unsure whether or not I'm retaining more. Waiting 1-2 weeks for a book to arrive is annoying compared to downloading an ebook. Has anyone here read a textbook from a computer monitor? I cannot imagine that it is pleasant.

Simple really.

With a real book you can relax anywhere, even in the garden (if you have a quiet one).

Also it has zero backlight obviously. You only have natural light which has zero flicker.

Your posture can be anything too. Your hands can position the book to your eyes where it feels right.

etc.

I actually prefer digital book. Much easier to make my flashcards when I can just copy the text, take snapshot of the drawings, mark skipped sections for later, ...
But I never read for pleasure, I guess if reading for pleasure then yes, a read book would be better for comfort

I personally love ebooks, but that's just because I prefer reading from a desktop screen. Which is mainly because I don't have to slouch over (I know there are book holders, but still) and I can often make the text size as large or small as I want.
I'm not sure about others, but I also find myself being far less distracted while reading on a computer than while holding a physical book.
Nothing can beat the aesthetic of physical versions on a bookshelf though, which I why I end up buying both copies of whatever textbook if I like it enough. I actually have that very same Campbell Biology book in my collection, I used it for my principles of bio 1&2 a little over 2 years ago. It's an excellent book for general and introductory information, and I found myself even finishing it in my own free time after those classes passed, just out of curiosity.

Damn I wish I was like you; the moment I start feeling a little bit bored I inmediatly open a videogame.

you could try uninstalling them? That works for me normally, but I understand that urge to want to play and procrastinate.
Idk, once I got into my junior and senior level classes there was just no way to possibly earn high grades, spend time with my gf, or play video games. So I just gave up on video games and only really play sometimes during breaks

Dude at first it's difficult. My school from the get go did pdf's. Some retards in our classes started printing the docs in the first semester but after a week they realized what a waste of ink that was very quickly. Always about 60 - 120 pages per lecture is crazy.

In calculus we had a teacher that had multiple files open and was switching between them non stop. Really crazy and makes your head spin from time to time. But you get used to it.

I'll setup another Windows porfile where I just use for Ebooks.
Wich program do you use to read them?

Creating another profile is some virgin shit, become a chad and uninstall them desu. But its up to you of course
It normally just depends on class text assigned, but at my university I find myself using Bookshelf and Yuzu for all of them. I think Campbell has their own site for their books, but I can't remember or check what it is since I'm not with my desktop rn.

The benefit of having any book you want online is far too valuable to waste time with physical books at this point.

>> No.11874882

I find I'm more motivated if I buy the physical book, but I almost always end up just using a digital version anyways.
My current policy is I buy a book(assuming a reasonable price) when I'm a sizeable amount through it and intend on finishing it. I still end up using the digital one though.
I'm addicted to collecting textbooks desu.
