Different schools have harder or easier math courses and for some students (the type likely to be posting on /sci/) they are expected to take much harder courses (graduate level at most universities) than their contemporaries so, "sophomore level math" isn't even well-defined. Assume it was, at one point it was research level mathematics and without knowing the answer (and I suspect you only think you know the answer) most questions in these fields are extraordinarily difficult.
