11305326 No.11305326 [Reply] [Original]

What is humanity's REAL endgame?

Please, no flying cars, FTL travel, colonizing galaxies, pipe dreams, simulations, resetting the universes, dying of global warmings, dying of overpopulations, and none of those other nonsenses. Just REAL and true predictions of what will actually happen to our species. If we don't die first, I mean.

i bet a subset of humanity evolves to live in low gravity space habitats before interstellar travel is readily possible, and there will have earthling and spaceling human descendant species. probably the earthlings will stay smarter and the spacelings will be our dumb but more space-savvy cousins that make it more difficult for space-faring to become worthwhile, while the spacelings dominate the skies but rely on us for resources and brainpower. the spacelings would probably be able to hold us hostage much more easily than we could them, so there will probably be some sort of cold war for eons that will not resolve until earthlings can reach interstellar capabilities, but naturally they will bring the spacelings along to their interstellar communities for economic reasons

Wow Opie.
That's a really specific question, the way you outlined exactly what you don't want to hear.
Why not just wait for people to say some of this stuff, then pout and whine about not wanting to hear it?

With that in mind, here goes:
>flying cars
We already have flying cars, they're called helicopters.

>FTL
Barring some major sea change in our understanding of the universe, this one's not gonna happen.
It's not just a matter of discovering some new fundamental force or something, instead GR and/or causality have to be really seriously wrong, and they almost certainly aren't.

>colonizing galaxies
I'd say this one is fairly likely "if we don't die first".
The technology is almost inevitable, even if we have to get past another dark ages or two to get there.

>simulations
If you mean the singularity-fag's bullshit, it's not "humanity", since simulated people aren't human, and certainly aren't "real people uploaded".

>dying of global warmings
>If we don't die first
>dying
>If we don't die
I'll just let you think about this one.

>dying of overpopulations
The above "if we don't die first" verbal paradox applies here .
More importantly, I'm not sure how we'd die out from having too many people.
Plus there's the whole "peak child" thing.
We've had about the same number of children (under 14) worldwide since the 90's.
The only reason thee population's still going up is there aren't enough old people leaving to balance the new babies arriving.
Current trends continuing, it'll work itself out.

>REAL and true predictions
For the near future?
The middle class is in decline, especially in the U.S.
There's no long term profit in more and more people having less and less disposable income, so we get a continued downward spiral.
Technology should continue to advance, making being poor less of a burden than it once was.
The average modern poor American still has a roof, running water and food.
Western hegemony is spreading the modern lifestyle to more and more people.
So I'm guessing a lot of people worldwide will be living under Ghetto-American conditions.
Hopefully, the current trends towards nationalism and strongman fascism is a temporary glitch, and we won't be left with an Orwellian bleak future.

You're skipping the part where GR tells us that two sufficiently distant events occur in different orders depending on what frame of reference you use to describe the events.
That's fine for unrelated events, but not for FTL, regardless of whether you use the Alcubierre drive, wormholes or magic.

Only because light can only go so fast. An effect could “appear” to occur before its “effect” but this is just an illusion.

false. general relativity is empirically true and is a low-energy limit (like newtonian mechanics is for quantum mechanics) for a quantum theory of gravity. quantum gravity theories exist and even if you bitch about string theory you can’t make the claim that there is any fundamental incompatibility. unless you are a misinformed undergrad

again, completely retarded. theories of things that go beyond experimental and observational measurements are exactly what einstein did and exactly what current theorists do. even if theorists live in a world with a plethora of experimental data, they still need to make up wild ideas since their job is to make predictions of future things. that’s what einstein did, even though in his days there were tons of unexplained experimental results.

today, theorists have less in the way of unexplained experimental results but theories of quantum gravity that they work on accommodate all observations plus are ready to handle all future possible observations. you are wrong

>please, none of these completely likely scenarios like dying of overpopulation in a ecosystem in which we've already surpassed carrying capacity and the technology to continue to support us wont exist in the near future and the environment is being destroyed, no memes guys come on only REAL and true predictions
Okay, we'll hit unsustainable levels of consumption based on overpopulation. The damage to our environment will be irreparable within a meaningful amount of time. The technology we currently rely on to prop up our species beyond the carrying capacity (fossil fuels) will either burn out, become incapable of supporting us further, or continue to damage the environment to such a degree as to be unusable. If some form of nuclear power (the only viable solution) isn't made in the interim, we're fucked, human development halts for a minimum of generations, if we recover in a relatively short (read: thousands of years) amount of time at all. There will be wars fought over calories, as there will be too many people with nothing to eat. The dystopian cyberpunk corporations will deal with the genetic information necessary to make crops that can survive. There will be constant terrorist attacks against what food there is so that these corporations can keep making money. Human civilization will be housed down into remote, largely isolated clumps of pseudo-metropolitan areas.

If we can manage to come out the other side of that, and if the environment ever recovers, we might start it all again, but it's unlikely since the whole reason we got to the point we've manage to get to in the first place (fossil fuels) will be unavailable either due to scarcity, difficulty to procure, or simply because they were used up.

We're pretty much guaranteed to not be colonizing other planets, ever, and if we manage to overcome that barrier, large-scale transportation between such colonies won't be wide-scale available to any of us.

100k/year is no longer enough to be counted as 'upper class' though, because expenses have outstripped wages. The thing killing the middle class/americans in general is not money coming in, it's expenses coming out. Usury and easy credit loans make it so people can live far beyond their means until they crash and burn. The average american has more debt than they can pay off in a year, and spend as much as they bring in every paycheck. 100,000/year isn't a lot if 50,000/year is going to school loans/credit debt.

Usury is a society killer.
