Hello great minds of 4chan. I request guidance from this board so that I may have a clear path to becoming my career dream as fast as possible: an astronaut.

NASA's minimum requirement is 3 years in a relevant job field, a bachelors in engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science or mathematics. Focus on the physical test is not applicable. I'm also including any other government or private programs such as SpaceX or UK Space Agency.

Currently, I'm 18 years old and graduated high school May of 2019. Sporting a GPA of 3.11 with no honor courses taken but with a natural talent in math and science. In other words, I'm as average come.

So I pose this proposition you 4chaners. What do I need to do achieve? All options are on the table including, but not limited, the military and college. I'm listening.

Did you take an SAT/ACT? If you did, post your score, I want to see what we're dealing with. Otherwise, good luck at McDonald's, wagie.

anon, being an astronaut is really fucking hard. like, there are probably math PhDs and physics PhDs and professional data scientists and professional industry chemists here, but probably not astronauts. because astronauts are a handful of people whereas the people in professions i mentioned are a real community of people working in a real field. "astronaut" is not a field. it is more like a few exceptional randos that NASA picks for publicity reasons.

being an astronaut is not even a real career choice. if you look at astronauts, in the early days they were mostly test pilots (i.e. they could try to fly the thing if the navigation computers went down). aside from that, astronauts are mostly the same as the chimps they sent up there -- just biological test specimens.

i guess my point is that manned space exploration is foolish, at least in our current stage of development. trying to be an astronaut is not what scientifically-minded people should do; let the pilots do that instead, at least until it becomes a real scientific thing (which it probably won't since unmanned space exploration is much more promising)

If you do not excel you will never make it. Focus on grades first but once you're top of your class you need to differentiate yourself from the best of the best.

Step 1: go to USAFA. If you don't go to USAFA, you have no chance.

Anon, your best bet is to get an aerospace/mechanical engineering degree and also become a top pilot for the Navy/airforce. If you aren't a pilot by 20, it isn't happening for you.
