So I'm still deciding whether to study medicine or, what I'm more inclined towards, CS. Why do people trash it? In my country it's free (taxes pay for our public education) and seems to be quite robust for not having a huge educational industry backing it like in the US,.

>CS is a meme
they don’t they say that CS majors are low iq pseud insect people, this is a justified and true belief. look at the degree requirements for a CS degree learn to code a little and then open a book on quantum mechanics or functional analysis, they’re barely sentient 21st century factory specialists and nothing more.

it's a meme, but only because most universities don't teach it properly and it's a magnet for foreigners

Ah, then probably CS is not what I'm talking about. I don't know the degree's title in english as they usually differ in niche things but it would be (literally) engineer in software. Googled that and I get a shitton of results but none seem to be synonyms.

>engineer in software
Ah... guess what, compared curriculums and it's software engineer, don't know how I didn't think of that before.

That’s what most CStards are going to do, its just called software engineering, they’re even dumber than CSniggers and often only spend two years at university.

Ah, here software engineering is 5 years and makes emphasis on math.

But what should I pursue if I wanna grasp something deeper than CS or american software engineering related to software development?

computer engineering and then do low level embedded stuff

The basic requirements for CS are easy in most schools, but going far in CS, especially TCS, is hard. Functional is hard but optional for most math majors. Undergrad quantum isn’t hard until your second semester taking it. I agree they data structures and basic algo is easy, but complexity is as hard and as abstract as any upper division class in math would be

Just don't listen to retards on this board and study what you want to. They think studying math and physics on the highest level makes them smart and knowledgeable, yet they don't realize you will not need this stuff anywhere apart from research where you will likely work your ass off and end up poor and unrecognized anyway.
If you're smart and know your stuff you can be successful with almost any degree, even if it wasn't the hardest program. CS and even Software engineering is a good degree with good future career prospects.
Not saying that CS is easy by the way, depending on your uni it might be extremely heavy on math and theory.

Every board has its biases.
If you don't do maths or physics here you're a failure.
/g/ays think that everything that isn't CS is for dumb people.
/pol/tards will tell you that you should be a tradie and never go to college.
/biz/fags in the meantime will unironically sperg at your for having a qualification and a job and brag about being NEETs.

The question is: why do you care?

Isn't the issue in the US that undergraduate level CS (above which only few go) is mostly just code monkey school with little academic rigour and students that mostly couldn't care less for CS as an actual scientific subject?

CS is good. CS students are typically bad. And many CS programs are trash.

Do what you love and pursue it to the best of your ability.

>Why do people trash it?
Because there are a lot of programs barely related to CS out there, and /sci/ does not know the difference.
