What happens after a human receives a lobotomy?

>The purpose of the operation was to reduce the symptoms ofmental disorders, and it was recognized that this was accomplished at the expense of a person's personality and intellect. British psychiatrist Maurice Partridge, who conducted a follow-up study of 300 patients, said that the treatment achieved its effects by "reducing the complexity of psychic life". Following the operation, spontaneity, responsiveness, self-awareness and self-control were reduced. Activity was replaced by inertia, and people were left emotionally blunted and restricted in their intellectual range.[14]

>The consequences of the operation have been described as "mixed".[15]Some patients died as a result of the operation and others later committed suicide. Some were left severely brain-damaged. Others were able to leave the hospital, or became more manageable within the hospital.[15]A few people managed to return to responsible work, while at the other extreme people were left with severe and disabling impairments.[16]Most people fell into an intermediate group, left with some improvement of their symptoms but also with emotional and intellectual deficits to which they made a better or worse adjustment.[16]On average, there was a mortality rate of approximately 5 percent during the 1940s.[16]

Nothing. There is so much media about lobotomies causing >>11077998 that now through pure placebo effect when people go through a lobotomy their brain tricks them into thinking they have those symptoms.

a lobotomy severes your prefrontal cortex(PFC) connections.
Your PFC is like the CEO of your brain, enabling you for example to consciously control your actions. estimating the best options for your current situation. pursuing of goals etc. if you want more info look into 'executive functions' which is one of the main cognitive domains associated with the PFC.
Why would one want to do this?
disregulations of neurotransmitters can fuck you up badly, mentally speakng. another reason would be to reduce epileptic attacks from spreading throughout your brain

i take antipsychotics. or at least I'm supposed to. I don't any more. but they are chemical lobotomies. it just makes me want to lay in bed and not move. couldn't even watch TV or play vidya because my attention span was so shot. and I had a lot of apathy too. I'm much better now but still not 100%. never will be.

The net effect of these disturbances in cognitive abilities is ageneral lowering of intellectual function.

Yea right. The organ that literally controls emotions, pleasure, pain, cognition and consciousness has absolutely 0 symptoms after physical trauma from literally drilling someone skulls in is purely placebo (actually nocebo in your context) and its all just a 'trick' how? >>11078039
It would be eaiser to prove that the nocebo effect is not even real let alone relevant to the effects of physical brain damage.

Do you still have symptoms? If so how are they different to how they were before you discontinued your antipsychotic, when did you last take it and which other drugs have you used/are using (SSRI's?). Theoretically you should be better after stopping antipychs then before you did before taking them or atleast back to normal if things like drug withdrawals and the rebound effect occur like basically the opposite of how cocaine makes things more enjoyable but after you stop taking them you develop anhedonia, the oppositte would be the case with antipsychotics.

I am the person that you replied to. I live in a very shitty apartment with a very shitty house ten feet away from me, which was squatted in by some stupid homeless fucks this past winter. Out my drawn shades, I had to be aware of their physical presence, and I fantasized about killing them to be rid of them. We enjoyed an especially hard winter, with a few days around -30 fahrenheit, which I sincerely hoped might kill them. I drive past homeless on corners on a daily basis and I hate them. There is a homeless church shelter two blocks away from here. I see them foraging in the dumpsters regularly. We had a local shantytown at some distance from myself this past winter, but it was broken down/put out of sight. It isn't SF-tier here just yet, but it's on pace to be. I hate and despise the homeless exactly because I live in close proximity with them; they deserve what happens to them.

That said, I reiterate the above: I would rather be homeless than not have my mind. If anything, the writing of this post should prove to you that I have my mind. I know that one of the root causes of homelessness is that they do not have their minds (and so consequently deserve what happens to them). But there are homeless who do have their minds, albeit have "fallen on hard times". I would be one of those that I hate so much.

People who take antipsychotics because symptoms still have them. They just don't care about them. My mum died for motor neuron disease with frontotemporal dementia. The dementia ground up her personality into dust until there was nothing left. Just a mindless terrified animal gazing frantically in all directions. If a lobotomy, which specifically targets the frontal lobe, is anything like that, the people who kept on doing it should all have been stood in front of a firing squad.

lobotomy is the utmost delightful gift from a certain unscientific field composed of the only people who are delusional enough to think they know shit about the brain or human behavior. my mum would love to gift me with this shit as a kid if the practice was still legal

i find it incredibly funny how she hates me so much she would prefer to take care of me in a vegetative state for the rest of my life rather than working on our differences
