I have a theory that over time, pornography decreases the attractiveness of a lover and is therefor harmful for relationships. How do I go about testing this scientifically?

not science or math but that ass is fine as hell.

>> No.11012839

sociological could involve measuring 'attractiveness' by survey, relationship success (marriage/divorce), and intimacy. also could measure pornography use by survey (candidates may lie as well as in prior survey). Even bigger scale could examine cultural and personal attitudes and beliefs towards both issues, whilst using more varied populations and inclusion of populations that may religiously/morally oppose pornography.

then back up with a more natural science approach would simply measure pornography use against oxytocin or dopamine or some shit when exposed to their partner.

How much do you think it would cost to perform these experiments and produce something credible? I only have 2,000 dollars saved up since Im just a bus driver but Im comfortable reading and writing scientific papers.

Most desires are false or misleading.

It's like wanting a sports car when you know that all you actually ever do is the commute to work..

And your ok with the above average mpg your getting.

But your obsessed with the sports car beyond reason..

But you know that it's not actually what you want.

I suppose what I'm saying is that sports cars are for people that make a lot more money than they need..

And they wouldn't really buy them for the same reason you would.

The end.

and yes, some people do have more money than brain. i'm not saying you're wrong about that, but there's nothing wrong with having a hobby that you enjoy.

I never really thought of it as a hobby, it requires far too much investment in time and money.

And although I like driving I very rarely like doing the upkeep and maintenance.

I play video games.

it's a rich mans hobby. i'd love to participate but i don't have 50k to drop on a car either.

running is a hobby, sports cars are a hobby, yacht racing is a hobby too.

although i think the word "hobby" generally has positive connotations in american english. things like wacking off, drinking, and smoking are too vulgar to be called "hobbies" imo.

You may be right for some but whacking and hotrodding still take some stern self discipline for me. Drinking comes naturally but I'm never sure when it's appropriate and that probably makes me more conservative. Yeah. People are dumb.

i think you're missing my point, i'm trying to pin down the meaning of the word "hobby".

"hobby" is an appropriate word for pursuits and activities that have a positive influence or are otherwise wholesome or at least relatively benign to ones well being (if not their wallet)

"habit" is a better word for vices like drugs, tobacco, drinking, and jacking off.

lmao you fucking imbecile.

invest that money into your education for career progression or something else. you don't have anywhere near the expertise or credibility to be awarded a grant and 2,000 is fucking peanuts if you want to do a big study with all of the equipment and subordinates. it's not even an interesting or valuable study topic. so what if it has an effect? are you suggesting we ban it outright?

spend your time and money on getting a better education and career, and maybe if you manage to get a PhD or you get enough money to fund research or donate to academic departments then you can start thinking about stupid research ideas.
