Let's say we want to be carbon neutral by 2050. What are the best options available to us?
I'm thinking:
1. carbon tax; revenue immediately redistributed so that it doesn't cause financial hardship
2. push against wasteful consumerism: e.g. disincentive private cars in favor of public transport in cities
3. mandate that energy companies maximize wind and solar capacity before they resort to burning gas (coal is banned, obviously)
4. build strategic nuclear capacity, especially in places that can absorb excess energy easily (manufacturing locations) and places where wind and solar aren't viable
5. and of course sanction polluting countries who aren't abiding by international climate change carbon reduction target agreements

How about a carbon tax that's completely transparent, where all the money is evenly and in the next tax year distributed back to the citizens of the country?
