Y tho? IDK if we'll ever successfully colonize a planet outside our solar system but I don't see why we won't successfully colonize at least Mars. Not to get too simplistic about it, but once you get a craft into space it's basically a big submarine, and the journey time to Mars is roughly analogous to that of the deployment time of a submarine.

Once you get to mars, you can live in underground tunnels so that there is no longer a significant risk of habitat depressurization from explosion, accident, or puncture. I'm not saying it will be glamorous, but I think it is certainly doable and even sustainable given a large enough initial commitment.

Shit, if you can engineer an effective and fast reproducing microbe that eats sulfuric acid and shits O2, you could probably colonize Venus in a few hundred years if you're aggressive enough about it.

They put little blocks of radioisotopes next to components that can't get too cold to keep them warm. In fact nearly every space probe has these radio-thermal heaters, Curiosity has something like two dozen.

It's so bad people are looking up to some irrelevant private company hated by almost everyone in the US to do it instead of the state lmao.

The only way for america to do anything in the short term is to be scared shitless by someone be that USSR or China even if they aren't doing anything hostile. Jealousy and hurt superiority complex is enough.

That's not how humanity can progress. That's how humanity will perish in a hollywood degradation nightmare of instant gratification and insanity.

And without the American Robert Goddard and his pioneering rocket development, the German V-2 program wouldn't exist.

>Nevertheless, in 1963, von Braun, reflecting on the history of rocketry, said of Goddard: "His rockets ... may have been rather crude by present-day standards, but they blazed the trail and incorporated many features used in our most modern rockets and space vehicles".[73] He once recalled that "Goddard's experiments in liquid fuel saved us years of work, and enabled us to perfect the V-2 years before it would have been possible."[74] After World War II von Braun reviewed Goddard's patents and believed they contained enough technical information to build a large missile.[75]

>Three features developed by Goddard appeared in the V-2: (1) turbopumps were used to inject fuel into the combustion chamber; (2) gyroscopically controlled vanes in the nozzle stabilized the rocket until external vanes in the air could do so; and (3) excess alcohol was fed in around the combustion chamber walls, so that a blanket of evaporating gas protected the engine walls from the combustion heat.

It is true tho.

If you dont have any electional cycle where you can blame all the problems you caused on the next president/party in the revolving door system, all blame will be only put on yourself.

And when the only form of power transition is "beheaded, body skewered and sodomiozed with your entire family roasted alive", like so many times in their history when an once powerful emperor was toppled by angry peasants, you really really try to make people's lives better or at least act on their complains.

Democracies have no need for that. They can just hide behind "the will of the people" whenever they fuck up and let the deep state decide for the next guy to take charge.

Yeah what about it?

If Chinese people have any reason to reject democracy, it is because Mao. It you thought that Mao was seen as a dictator, you are mistaken. He's seen as someone who made the people kill each other out of their own fanaticism. Mao is more like Trump, if he one day uses MAGA as a slogan to get altright death-squads hunt down their neighbors by blaming them as immigrants and "enemy of the american worker".

And what about the "Xinjiang protests" (whatever you mean)? In those riots of 2009, 200+ HAN Chinese died to Uyghur rioters, prompting the HAN people demanding and even helping their government to camp them all. That's not an example of "oppression" but more of ethnic cleansing by the majority vs the minority. Again, a very democratic thing to do if your majority demands such measures to "protect themselves".

With this most recent achievement, fate has in a single stroke, marked the decline of the west and spelled a new era of wondrous prosperity and peaceful global dominance for the Chinese dragon, which promises to firmly stand in sharp contrast to the historically bloody ascent of western powers and the cruel subjugation it brought to the humbler nations of the world. With the blessings of Chinese monocrystal turbines, plasma stealth technology, quantum direct-current electricity, quantum aircraft carriers and quantum enhanced railguns will be the instruments with which China affirms its noble stewardship of 21st century world politics and offers the non-western world a different option; an humanist alternative to the depredations of Western leadership and the opportunity for a more equitable and dignified multilateralism.

Sure they are partnering, and that is part of the problem. This link was posted on /cyb/ earlier:

>Xu is alleged to have worked with individuals at NUAA, a university linked to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. It is one of the top engineering universities in China and collaborates with Chinese aircraft manufacturers.

>The US says Xu’s case is emblematic of China’s plan - intelligence officials working hand-in-glove with Chinese companies to steal technical secrets from the West and then use them to advance their own economy.

>Much of the threat, Evanina says, comes from people who are not spies per se. “They use scientists, engineers, businessmen. They can come here, ingrain themselves in the organisation, be part of a culture, work on a significant project, classified or unclassified, and be in a position to obtain that data for nefarious reasons, and send it back.”

>They'll be able to sit back and bombard any nation they want with complete impunity.
We already went trough this during the cold war you fuck, theres no advantage at all to having your weapons in space. Sub based icbms are 100% stealthy until launched and they get to their target in less than four minutes.
Your orbital weapons platform is literally hundreds of times more expensive, it's ultra noticeable (impossible to hide theres no stealth in space) takes longer to get to the target and can be shot down even by non space faring nations. (all it takes is a simple rocket that goes up and intercepts your path)
That is of course unless it is in a very high orbit, in the moon perhaps? then sure, it cant be shot down but it also takes ridiculously longer to get to earth, like a couple of days, by the time the missiles are even 1/4 of the way there all your bases are glass.

0% strategic advantage to being in space, this was thrororougly worked out during the cold war

Little of Column A, little of Column B. They did continue space flight post-Korolev, and had a very successful unmanned and manned station program.

Even had SPK lived, their fractured and underfunded manned lunar program was not likely to succeed. The problems were really well above his level, in the government that would not get all their shit in one place and turn him loose -- or sideline him and turn somebody else loose. But running several parallel programs without giving any of them sufficient funds was not going to get the job done

If korolev had been kept alive soviest would have gotten to the moon first. Their plan was better, more humble saner and better over all.

Simply assemble a craft in orbit using 3 soyuz launches. Smaller craft, send 2 people instead of 3 to the moon, but it would have been peanuts compared to building a retardedly huge fuck rocket.

3 soyuz launches, 3 launches of the most reliable rocket in history

Americans killed 4 times more astronauts.

They also had like literally 100.000 times bigger budget. They have no excuse, russians had much less money and had to compete because of the evil capitalist imperialist agression, all teh while keeping their basic development indicators higher than in the modern world.

Their accidents were totally negligent.
-XX century scientists didn't know oxygen and combustion were related
-Engineer called to let launch control know most likely scenario was it would explode. Nasa decided to chance it.

But worst of all, the most blatant show of difference between communist-ourpriorityishelpignthepeople-mentality and capitalist-idontcareifihavetokillababytoearn1moredollar is where the victims came from.

Russian soviet cosmonauts who died were ultra rugged manly men not afraid of anything who were military and had reasonable reason to expect death , the space missions were 100% critical to resist the evil invasion of capitalist empire, so they went and did what had to be done, and died gloriously defending their country.

On the other hand americans first of all made unnecesary missions , like 100% seriously, missions that could be unmanned they made it manned with the shuttle because, hey what does a capitalist care about life. They employed a ton of civilian and sold them the shuttle was safeish did not disclose that the engineers who made it adviced it shouldn't fly.

So they went ahead and grabbed an innocent civilian high school teacher who had NOTHING to do with the evil war of the empire, like a civilian a pretty normal housewife that was gonna raise beautyful children and they putted her in an iron coffin which THEY TOTALLY knew it would explode. Even the engineer who made the shuttle called nasa and say " dont launch it will explode" and nasa replied "lol who cares if she dies she cant sue us".
