Any /sci/ recommendations for math textbooks in the following areas?

Functional Analysis
Real/Complex Analysis
Optimization
Numerical Methods for PDEs

Lax for Fun Anal.
Anything for Real Anal.
Lipman Bers for Complex Anal.
Optimization and PDEs can go fuck themselves.

I'm actually into applied math, the analysis is just necessary for beefing up my math ability- undergraduate level analysis/ measure theory turned out to be useful in that regard. I have yet to steer it in an engineering/compsci/finance direction, but that shouldn't take more than a few certs.

>Functional
Brezis is an absolute joy to read. He has solutions to problems if you're into that. However, it doesn't go as deep as something like Reed and Simon or Lax. I've also heard good things about Conway. Brezis focuses more (especially the second half) on applications to PDEs. If you want a very comprehensive tome, look at よしだ.

>Complex
Ahlfors is the classic text for this, but I dislike his style. He often hides definitions and proofs inside text, so it can be a pain to locate things.
I would suggest Stein and Shikarchi or Conway. Rudin has a somewhat odd presentation of complex analysis, but I enjoy it.

>Real
Folland is my favorite text for real analysis. Rudin is great as well. I'd look for something that speeds through measure theory as most people effectively use it as a black box. Most measure theoretic arguments aren't that useful in PDEs or numerical analysis. I like to refer to the construction of Lebesgue measure as something you see once and then never again (unless you teach it). You should avoid something that does not treat measures in the abstract setting first as it's a waste of time otherwise.

(For functional, real, and complex, some good online notes can be found on Paul Garrett's webpage http://www-users.math.umn.edu/~garrett/ )

I'm not a numerical analyst, so I can't say much for your last two requests. My officemate does finite element methods, and he swears upon Atkin as a great introduction to numerical analysis through a functional analysis perspective. The book covers the functional analysis necessary as well.

I used this book for one of my linear algebra courses though it mainly involved ch. 7 - 10. Chapter 9/10 are an online extension of the book covering game theory and finite markov chains, respectively.

I'm not the OP, but an introduction to optimization should contain an overview of the whole field, not just discrete/combinatorial and convex.

These are the most relevant to CS because the algorithmic complexity is well defined.
