So the largest nuclear bomb ever built and detonated was 'Tsar Bomba' ( AN602) at ~57mt, designed for and could have yielded 100mt yield. Great. I'm bored to tears reading about this particular device.

So what is the absolute upper limit on nuclear bomb yields? Don't care if it fits into a rocket or plane or not, what's the absolute biggest most destructive bomb possible that doesn't spontaneously fissile or the world would run out of materials to make?

Is there an equation that easily sums this up? There is minimum feasible yield, there should be a maximum one, too?

That all said, second question, what is the largest yield device that could fit on a Saturn V?

There is no upper limit, just keep upping the amount of fissile material and explosive devices. You may have to start using smaller nuclear explosives to initiate the main warhead.

the tsar bomba weighted 27 tons, the saturn V payload was about 120 tons to LEO, so you could carry around 4

isn't there a point where the yield would be so high you make a star by accident

Yes, you need several times the mass of jupiter

Confirmed, the upper limit is several times the mass of jupiter. Next /sqg/ please

How many 20kT suitcase nukes can you fit in a long range bomber, and just use it as a delivery vehicle for a high volume of mini nukes to make one super nuke, using the plane as a missile?
