I was about to post begging you folks for help because i thought i spotted two errors in my textbook, and while i was answering the >what did you try?, i resolved both issues. Why does this keep happening? I swear I can be stuck on a problem for hours, and the second im about to post here or on MSE i find the solution...

I'm >>9282340 here, I just checked on something that I apparently overlooked earlier this year.

http://www.military.com/daily-news/2017/04/24/house-backing-away-proposal-tax-gi-bill.html

Now I'm starting to understand the logic behind this proposal on taxing tuition waviers. Congress wanted to originally go after G.I. bill recipents by taxing their school assistance. The military pushed back and they backed off. Now they're going after a softer target with less resistance that being civilian grads.

It all makes sense now, at first I was trying to wrap my brain around the issue some more since I also realized this proposal of taxing waviers could be argued as a violation of the yellow ribbon program (civilian institution and military joint tuition waiver) but now I see the logic (a bit underhanded though).

is it ever possible to have a job just researching w/e you want without any deadlines or constraints?

i value knowledge, and i also value my quality of life from a financial and health aspect. with this in mind, i wanted to know what would be the ultimate equilibrium for me. iirc some mathfag once said that some Researcher only came in once a week, wrote a portion of a paper they were working on, and then left to do some skiing. how does one get this gig? what are the requirements and chances?

when does mathematics transition from arithmetic of variables to things like the analysis of abstract structures?

how does one go from operations that seem so ubiquitous, lead into an extension of a world where things that seem undefinable within its frame gain definition?

is arithmetic to mathematics as spelling is to writing? it makes me feel like a fool.

is there any mathematical approach to calculating the probability of getting a number in roulette that takes into account the multiple combinations of how a ball is actually dropped (where the numbers are relative to release) and also air drag and so on to a high degree of physical accuracy? or is it just not possible?

what is a group compared to a set? i get that a set is a collection of objects, be it numbers or functions, that have constraints on the domain or range, but what does a group add?

better yet, how does one extend from a set to a ring and field? from what i understand, rings allow you to add and subtract subsets, and fields allow you to multiply and divide? so i ask, where does a group sit in this framework?
