Maybe 1 more Starship launch, 2 if we're lucky

Artemis 2 launches Q4 2024 - Q1 2025 (SLS is through most of its growing pains IMO)

By this time 2024 Starship has had a few missions deploying starlink sattelites, all are test flights or glorified test flights. HLS launches for the first time along with a tanker ship maybe, in space refueling is demonstrated.

By this time the general public is up to apollo levels of hype and SLS is starting to get some flak vs starship (the normies don't know about the specs but starship is clearly bigger and reusable). Whether Elons Current bullshit will affect the public opinion of starship is yet to be seen (imo twitter stuff is blowing over after he banned kanye).

China will be bullshitting about how they're gonna modify LM9 to be reusable, but they haven't copied enough of the bluprints to build something that wont swan dive into an elementary school.

Russia will be shilling it's F9 clone it has in development, but the ukranian war has caused Roscosmos funding to dry up. Their space station will be a shitty modernized version of MIR.

Neutron launches, probes get to venus and confirm phosphine, but are unable to confirm whether it is biological in origin.

Despite all the memeing I did about Shittle Reloaded, I really hope it flies without an issue. Public support for spaceflight will tank if SLS messes up and will probably take other spaceflight projects along with it.

I have no idea how I'd even calculate that but for reference the entire SLS stack (minus SRBs) weighs less than Starship so you'd need a long fucking tank to get equivalent propellant mass

The 30% more refers to the original cost estimate. The reason why it is being picked on so much is that SLS has been advertised as being cheap to develop and launch due to it reusing preexisting parts. Yet it's total cost is approaching what NASA gets per year.
