>While Mars’ surface is a frozen poisonous radioactive airless hellscape, Venus’ surface is rocky, volcanic, and a mere 462 C at 93 atmospheres, supercritical CO2 atmosphere with a side of sulfuric acid. This is so hot that future rovers will depend on mechanical computers/cameras/radios, because ordinary computers will melt. Obviously, sending humans to the surface of Venus is a non-starter.

>That’s okay, say Venus exploration advocate(s), we’ll have a giant airship. Somehow we’ll perform EDL at 12km/s, deploy something a hundred times the size of the Hindenburg in a couple of minutes, float around for a few months, then drop a Earth Return Vehicle (ERV) the size of a Saturn V off the bottom, light the engines, and return home.

How hard would it even be to get a sample and return it back to Earth?

First you would need something that passes through Venus without melting and also be fast enough, so the pressure doesn't kill it.

What next?

When are we expected to breach the symbolic 1000 dollars / kg. threshold? What's the current pricing like?

reminder that this is an infrared scan of the surface. real venus looks like this.

there aren't many good images like this of venus online, and many images you find will have cloud patterns visible, which is largely inaccurate to how it would look to the naked eye

Why are you posting a shitty UV image?

Would you post a UV image of Earth to represent Earth? No you fucking wouldn't.

I get that Venus looks boring but THAT IS IRRELEVANT - the important thing is that it should be shown ACCURATELY so that people know what it ACTUALLY looks like.

That fucking Venus pic, it looks nothing like that. it actually looks like a featureless white cue ball.

Still, I like Venus because it's so fucking ridiculous in every aspect, the temp, pressure, clouds of sulphuric acid.

How do you feel about Venus? An unblemished ivory sphere filled with more things to kill you than you can imagine.
