Consider the problem of getting back to where you came from if you had a time machine. You can see that there is some divergence of the time lines where you might end up in a different present than you started in due to some hysteresis loop, so how do you make sure you get back to where you came from? Everyone is familiar with the concept of "lines of flux" and that is where the (((flux capacitor))) comes in. On your way out of your original position in spacetime, if you can "capacitate" (or store) the time flux in the capacitor, and then you can discharge the capacitor when you want to go back, and since you have stored the original timeline, or the original lines of time flux, in the flux capacitor, then by discharging your own past timeline, it should help you get back to exactly where you came from (up to losses due to time friction.)
