NK-33 were amazing engines, but they never flew with the N-1F. NK-15s could only be fired once and caused massive issues for testing (no test stand, no static fires and so on). N-1 was an amazing overcomplicated mess whose father died before it could (mostly) leave blueprints, all its design features are compromises and no other rocket in history got so far like it. From its electronic throttling control instead of gimballing, to the massive amount of engines, to the spherical tanks due to manufacturing issues. It's just insane, I wish it could've flown without blowing up once, the fifth probably really would've been it.
>Weren't they Ukrainian
Korolev was ukrainian too, but I think it's a bit pointless to think about it before the split-up, a very large chunk of (space) manufacturing soviets had was in ukraine at the time.

They probably don't have much else to attach to, unlike the japanese that at least seem to fit in with the western world.

Got this from bing chat so hopefully no hallucinations. As per Elons suggestion-
>Failure modes of the N1 rocket
>The first launch failure, serial 3L, occurred on 21 February 1969. The rocket lifted off normally, but after 68.7 seconds of flight, a loose bolt was ingested by one of the 30 engines in the first stage, causing it to explode. The explosion damaged nearby engines and severed control wires, leading to loss of thrust and control. The rocket crashed into the ground about 41 kilometers from the launch site.
>The second launch failure, serial 5L, occurred on 3 July 1969. The rocket lifted off normally, but after 23.2 seconds of flight, a malfunction in the first stage engine control system caused abnormal thrust variations and vibrations. The vibrations damaged a fuel line, leading to a fire and explosion that destroyed the first stage. The rocket fell back onto its launch pad and exploded again, creating one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in human history.
>The third launch failure, serial 6L, occurred on 26 June 1971. The rocket lifted off normally, but after 50.1 seconds of flight, a fire broke out in the engine compartment of the first stage due to a ruptured oxidizer line. The fire damaged electrical cables and caused loss of control. The rocket veered off course and was destroyed by the range safety officer at an altitude of 27 kilometers.
>The fourth launch failure, serial 7L, occurred on 23 November 1972. The rocket lifted off normally, but after 107 seconds of flight, an electrical short circuit caused premature shutdown of two engines in the second stage. The rocket continued to ascend until it reached an altitude of 93 kilometers, where it ran out of propellant and started to fall back to Earth. During reentry, the third stage exploded due to structural failure.
