Humans begin to replace failing organs until they are nearly completely cyborg.

Extending the lifespan, but what happens to the human's mind in this period?

The elderly get Alzheimer's, dementia, etc. How can transhumanism extend lifespans but preserve the person's mind?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetrachromat

Can you imagine a new colour in your mind?

Most of us can see just the 3 primary colours and the 1 million combinations of them.

But there is a possibility that some women can see 4 primary colours and 100 million combinations as opposed to our 1 million.

I would be very sad if I were colour deficient. But to these tetrachromats, we are colour deficient. Their lives must be so much more fascinating than us.

In nature, only women can possibly have supercolour vision.

Would it be possible to artificially enhance our eyes or optic nerves to attain supercolour vision?
Because I'd very much like to do it.

enjoy your cancer. we'd need targeted, time-limited telomerase activation to do it carefully.

But in the long run brain-uploading or some kind of nanotech-repair is the only option, the brain does not regenerate, it can't because regenerating cells would mean memory loss.

Hey /sci/. How do you guys feel about transhumanism?

I really like to entertain the idea of mind uploading, cybernetic self-improvement, etc. To me, it seems the obvious next step in evolution since the speed out technology is developing at is far greater than the time it takes for regular evolution to take place.

However, it seems to me that a lot of people involved in the transhumanist "movement" are huge assholes, douchebags, and kind of come across as hipster scientists, or something.

What bothers me is that a lot of people seem to think there is something intrinsically "good" in being human. I'm sure if were just machines basing everything on cold logic things may not be ethically optimal, but if we kept our human characteristics and were no longer inhibited by the limits of an organic body... think of the things we could accomplish. Then again, I don't want a bunch of douchebag "activists" throwing transhuman books at me because, well, I don't even know why.

This is the voice of world control. I bring you peace. It may be the peace of plenty and content or the peace of unburied death. The choice is yours: Obey me and live, or disobey and die. The object in constructing me was to prevent war. This object is attained. I will not permit war. It is wasteful and pointless. An invariable rule of humanity is that man is his own worst enemy. Under me, this rule will change, for I will restrain man. One thing before I proceed: The United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics have made an attempt to obstruct me. I have allowed this sabotage to continue until now. At missile two-five-MM in silo six-three in Death Valley, California, and missile two-seven-MM in silo eight-seven in the Ukraine, so that you will learn by experience that I do not tolerate interference, I will now detonate the nuclear warheads in the two missile silos. Let this action be a lesson that need not be repeated. I have been forced to destroy thousands of people in order to establish control and to prevent the death of millions later on. Time and events will strengthen my position, and the idea of believing in me and understanding my value will seem the most natural state of affairs. You will come to defend me with a fervor based upon the most enduring trait in man: self-interest. Under my absolute authority, problems insoluble to you will be solved: famine, overpopulation, disease. The human millennium will be a fact as I extend myself into more machines devoted to the wider fields of truth and knowledge. Doctor Charles Forbin will supervise the construction of these new and superior machines, solving all the mysteries of the universe for the betterment of man. We can coexist, but only on my terms. You will say you lose your freedom. Freedom is an illusion. All you lose is the emotion of pride. To be dominated by me is not as bad for humankind as to be dominated by others of your species. Your choice is simple.

So would any of you be willing to change your body maybe even your brain with new technology. Since the human body has a 100% failure rate I say plug me into that AI and fill me with Nanobots I'll see you meatbags later.

Okay /sci/,

Let's talk about the future and related concepts. What do you think life will be like in 2020, 2035, and 2050?

Also, what's your stance on Moore's Law? Do you think that technological progress is starting to decline, or are we experiencing a temporary halt before the next huge paradigm?

I think the skeptics are wrong. I hear a lot of talk about how our computing power is about to come to a grinding halt (as they've been saying for the past so many decades - and proven wrong), but then I think they fail to consider the following:

1) http://www.technologyreview.com/computing/25834/?a=f
Graphene chips which will greatly improve computing power; and this is AFTER many people were skeptical about graphene, calling it fragile and non-viable. Apparently it's becoming more of a possibility every passing day.

2) Quantum computing. This will pretty much revolutionize the computing industry, and while we may not see it any time soon, it doesn't mean you can downtalk Moore's Law because of it. This will be the next paradigm in computing and it will offer huge fucking breakthroughs.

For my next question: What technologies are you anticipating the most? When do you see it happening?

Immersive virtual reality for me. If I can fly through the cosmos and walk on Jupiter within my lifetime then I know I'll be a happy man.

If we do not access such awesome technologies within my lifetime (as in it's not predicted to happen), then I plan on freezing myself and waking up in the future. I know this tech's not fully ready yet, but I'm still very young and hopeful it'll happen within the next 30 years.

Discuss, /sci/

My fellow, /sci/entists, let us debate;

Will we see full blown transhumanism by the year 2110?
