how do you soothe your damaged ego after falling for an exam question designed to catch people out?

if iq is essentially your ability to acquire and process new information then why don't people just push themselves intellectually to find their own potential instead of creating their own self fulfilling prophecy?
is worrying about your own iq an inherently low iq strat or am i missing something?
surely testing your learning capacity by actually learning is the most accurate way to determine your own intelligence

do you get better at understanding different scientific concepts and principles with time?
i've just started studying an a-level chemistry book and it's taking upwards of 30 minutes to fully digest one page
i'm getting a little worried

what would be the best ways of learning material to gain an intuitive understanding of it instead of just plain memorisation?
