you know how we picture or depict gravity, we picture/display it as a Cartesian grid of squares?

what if instead of a Cartesian grid of squares, it were a grid of overlapping circles? (I'm not sure what this kind of grid is called) If this were the case, then gravity in empty space be prefect circles
