I'll sum up OP's question:

The term schizo is thrown around a lot especially on /sci/ a majority of the time it is used incorrectly and has adopted a new broader definition for someone you disagree with but don't want to argue with. Most people use it to shut down arguments so they don't have to defend their point. It's pure sophistry.

So why is it thrown around so much? Who's throwing it around and misusing the term? Kind of interesting how a board about science and the pursuit of the truth had plenty of people who are so eager to shut other people's arguments down instead of proving that person wrong. The argument doesn't just go away by ignoring the people posting about it.
