Meme scientists often point to shit like shisima and mancala as "proof" Africans had an understanding of certain mathematical principles, but the idea that just because a civilization happens to have something that encompasses a part of mathematics doesn't mean they could explain or define in an abstraction for use in other fields like how the Europeans did with calculus or how the Arabic world did with arithmetic. It would be like saying any ancient civilization that used a circle somehow knew about pi and the unit circle.

Had to sit through a whole lecture during a gen ed on how Africans learn mathematics by drawing some lines in sand and telling a story about it, or throwing some palm nuts and reading a torture somehow teaches normal distributions and powers of 2. Shit was beyond stupid.
