We asked and SpaceX checked. The LUVOIR space telescope concept can indeed fly on Starship! (graphic used by permission)

at the first least it should be able to detect planets down to earth masses and do some direct imaging and atmospheric characterization of larger planets, hopefully earthlike planets too but we'll see
even if it can't, the next gen of telescopes like LUVOIR will definitely be able to take a good look at exoplanet atmospheres and spot any biosignatures if they're around

>Give it to me straight, if this 10 Billion gold origami blows up during launch or doesn't unfold in orbit, will they give up or make a second one?

Most likely scenario is simply continuing with the next big telescope program, which is LUVOIR. Maybe even launched on Starship.

With how things are going, we will get the JWST, and then it's successor, LUVOIR, launched on Starship a few years later.

It doesn't get much more "tactically responsive" than "yeet anything, anywhere, on earth or in the solar system, on a few days notice"
