I have no opinion on the reality of the diagnosis, but found this an interesting attack on the idea that the condition exists.

The ability of "therapists" and "patients" to heterodyne and go spinning off into some jointly constructed fantasy is sufficiently documented that it would certainly not surprise me if it were the case with this condition.
