In my country its usually a lot of small 3-7ppl labs. More in experiment. However Ive heard about big research institutes in Paris and Hamburg where atmosphere is the same and you have 30 ppl doing the same thing.
Ive never done anything in industry though.
Im from Poland, wage usually given in the countries you mentioned for postdocs are majestic :D Right now my girlfriend is on grant in Germany and she is going to save the amount thats about 20% of a flat in centre of big city. Anyway, its not about money... (but its nice to be rich).

Nothing. I just got fucked and couldnt do anything about it - thats the reason why I have supervisor and co-supervisor, I only do bold work with co-supervisor now. I find that loyalty pays off, in both directions.

Hmm, this seems rather bleak. Im 30 and Im buying a flat this month without any loans, just using all of the stipends I amassed during my PhD studies. And I thought our prices are insane.
