hi sci, in a paper a friend emailed me about electrodynamics it stated that
<div class="math"> \partial_\mu A_\mu = 0</div>
(which comes from the antisymmetry of the electromagnetic tensor)
somehow is not compatible with U(1) symmetry. as far as i know U(1) symmetry implies this relationship. am i wrong?

the ECE papers 130 ff. (http://www.aias.us/documents/uft/Paper130.pdf)) doesn't seem to prove this as stated.
