And what is? SpaceX has already proven they can propulsively land a spacecraft, they have proven they can support crew in space, they have prove they can get to orbit, they have proven they can achieve heavy lift capabilities and they have proven that they can meet up with other platforms in orbit. What is starship missing out of this equation? It needs to be a heavy lift platform, it must meet up with a fuel tanker in orbit, it must suppor crew and it must land propulsively. All of these things SpaceX has demonstrated proficiently.

That's actually really cool. Falcon Heavy will put the first crew-capable spacecraft in lunar orbit since the Saturn V retired. This also means Gateway is a spin grav module, a reactor module, and a nuclear engine away from being a Mars space station.

I could see something like a Falcon 9 scale Starship being made by a competitor simply because Starship is dramatically overkill for LEO. It would still need to be fully and rapidly reusable to be competitive, but if you do manage that it's one of the few things that could survive in a Starship driven market.
