I have a theory on this, hear me out /sci/.

I think that penetrative depth of understanding (vertical) is more associated with I.Q, and the "left brain". So what I mean by this, is that a high I.Q brain is one that creates distinctions, segregation and divisions, when mentally assessing the world. The complexity increases the higher the I.Q. High I.Q people tend to excel at mathematics, and they also seem to be more orderly, logical and clean...which tells me they compartmentalize things alot to sort things in their minds.

Think about this, everything in your brain is relative...a thought or a concept or a word, relies on another thing in order to be explained (think of axioms). So what I.Q is essentially doing, is slicing and dicing reality.

Now here's what I have to say about the Nepalis. Breadth of understanding (horizontal) is more associated with "wisdom", and the "right brain". So what I mean by this is that things are taken in holistically by these people, which intuits understanding...they see the world as a whole, but without that ability to slice and dice like the left brain does, it results in no penetrative depth of, but a generalized intelligence.

You probably know really smart people that are specialists in one area, but dumb as bricks in others. This is due to them having a higher I.Q, but a lower level of broader intelligence. The a.i thread talking about how they can't get artificial intelligence to simulate generalized intelligence got me thinking about this. What do you guys think?

Curious anon, what have you discovered so far? Or is this thread the first thing on your quest to do that?

Are emotions necessary for society in this day and age? And if people were to stop thinking emotionally and instead just use pure, cold logic, how different would the world be?
