What do you guys think about Mechatronics?

At my school, it's a specialization of the general mechanical engineering degree. I wish to work with robots and hopefully VR integration in the future. I chose the mech path because I'd still like to work with my hands and not be a codemonkey.

Thoughts? I'm planning to go to gradschool, hopefully one with a good robotics lab/good robotics research. But alls I see on this site is memetronics this memetronics that


Also should note, at my university, it's a very competitive specialization - typically students are like the top 10-15% of their class in the first two years of mechanical eng.
