Dung beetles use the Milky Way to navigate. They and your gf are smarter than you are.

The Cosmos is all that is or ever was or ever will be. Our feeblest contemplations of the Cosmos stir us — there is a tingling in the spine, a catch in the voice, a faint sensation of a distant memory, as if we were falling from a great height. We know we are approaching the greatest of mysteries.

Is it possible that everything that exists in our existence/universe is only a portion of what exists in it all? As in, maybe there are limits as to what may exist in this universe?

There's a reason why the big bang is called a "theory", OP...

Point is, we know little to jack shit about how the universe operates, and most of what we come up with ultimately boils down to speculation. As to how the universe started out, we may never find out, but how can we begin to question concepts like that when we have yet to land a human on another planet?

I don't know why /sci/ isn't /edu/, yet...
Anyway, I'm thinking about not going back to college next year, and instead getting a job, staying at home and building a savings account for a year, and retaking some of the classes I got poor grades in. The reason for this is that my GPA is going down the shitter, I have no work ethic, and I'd like to try living somewhere else. I was thinking Washington. I've been checking out their social disability opportunities, some of their local colleges, etc, and I'd like to get some more experienced people's opinion on the matter.
Is stopping going to college to work a possibility, or if I do, will I never return to academia, doomed forever to a life of mediocre depression and longing?
Anyone here live in WA, or attend Evergreen State College?

I use to look up to the stars and hope with all my heart that there was someone else up there.

I now look up to the stars and hope that there isn't. I look and and am amazed by the fact that it all belongs to US. We just have to reach out for it.

So I've been told Sci-Fi authors have no sense of scale. Do you guys believe this is so? Why or why not?

So, /sci/, if you had to pick only one universal law, theory, truth, etc. that could make someone understand the workings of nature, the universe, reality, etc. what would it be?

>Only ones I'm aware of are A Brief History of Time and Cosmos, but those are starting to get old and I'm sure somewhat dated, right?
Not at all and they're very good.

Check out also "Entering Space" by Robert Zubrin, and "Minding the Heavens: the Story of Our Discovery of the Milky Way" by Leila Balkora
