That's cool, interesting that they considered engines from overseas too as that'd open more design freedom. Myself, I like this one better, even if there's more complexity to it.

Probably one of the best launchers designs ever, died because they rushed polyus and previous launchers failures drained a lot of money and interest from space, that is without Korolev carrying it, too. A shame, it'd still do very well today, if ruskies wanted a platform they wouldn't do bad in trying to revive it and actually implement the fly-back-boosters concept.

Amazingly still a better and more modern design than the abomination SLS is. There is no doubt lack of competition is the menace of all development, be it commercial competition, an arms race or a technological one. I like to think it'd work well if developed and refined with some simplifications today too, but Russa is broke and all they can spend on is more nuclear toys. Hydromeme core stage with RP1 side boosters, all in a neat reusable packaging. I weep..
