The two most likely scenarios involving finding alien life.

1) Alien nomad fleet discovers Earth, they are a million years more advanced then us, they release a chemical into the atmosphere, that wipes out all life within 2 hours.

2) We find simple organic life living in heated pools of water deep in the surface of Mars or some moon in our solar system, but it goes extinct within hours because we disturb it's fragile environment drilling down to it.
