It's not possible with modern technology to build something like this, just like space elevators etc. The lesson some people haven't learned is that just being able to theorize about something in depth doesn't mean it's technically feasible at all.

but it's the only meme worth caring about in space travel. Mars, Ganymede, Europa, Enceladus, and Callisto are all horridly inhospitable worlds that are not worth caring about other than the possibility of harvesting their resources to put toward FTL travel to the green and blue worlds that exist across the galaxy waiting for colonization.
