so basically the question is: for a person living on the surface of a sphere, how you you prove you're not living on the surface of a doughnut?
this should be trivial to disprove for a veteran topologist

you could measure intrinsic curvature by drawing triangles (sphere has anywhere positive curvature, doughnuts do not.

also doughnuts have a whole in them, so you can create a loop that cannot be contracted in on itself.

an important point to observe here is that the 2d anon can measure that his world has non-zero curvature by, for example, measuring the angles of a triangle.
so he doesnt have to assume any extra dimensions to prove that his 2d-space is curved
