Maybe to make my cases clearer, here's a nice list of some of the more well known classical relativistic theories of gravity

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternatives_to_general_relativity

that is to say, those are 50 non-quantum Einstein-gravity like theories that came up in the first half of the 20'th century. Some even before Einstein gravity, most after as extensions thereof
E.g. here's Nordström's metric theory of gravity that even predates Einsteins version
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordstr%C3%B6m%27s_theory_of_gravitation

This is generally what physics research looks like, there's thousands of theories in various general frameworks. Theories are common. Most Profs, especially the further they are from particle phenomenology, never get heard of in that way, no matter how smart.

Being a late rich PhD dropout doesn't put Eric above any Prof who wasted his career in that way, his theories will be one of them.
Reminds me of

I was also a bit confused, but then thought the topics aren't _that_ much out there to be beyond first year. But I don't know, it's been >10 years that I did my degree, can't remember.
