Why do universities think it's acceptable to assign homework for a grade? Would they like me to do homework or would they like me to learn/study? When I get homework, I don't even try to learn the material because if I did, the homework would not get done and my grade would take a hit. So, instead I just take shortcuts, look up the answers, etc. I can't even commit enough time to my research lab because I need to do homework. I wish I could be more involved in my research lab, but as of now I am only doing as told by the graduate student I'm working under--I want to actually add value/contribute, but nah gotta write papers on racism/slavery/feminism/white man bad/etc.

I tried to learn Mandarin in high school for 4 years. It's very hard, nearly impossible to listen/talk to other people with. There are fucking tones that determine the meaning of a word. Which in a conversation who the fuck is listening to tones + the word. "muh hieroglyphs", people don't speak in hieroglyphs idiot. I'm currently learning Japanese as my second language in university, which is actually easier than Chink + a lot of the language is basically European/English at this point.
